Known to all as Tony Formosa
On the morning of January 25, 2025, Anthony Formosa “Tony” passed peacefully at the Willington Creek facility in Powell River, BC.
Tony was born February 26, 1934, in the city of Valletta on the island of Malta. As a young man Tony immigrated to Canada in 1954 and joined some of his siblings in Powell River. Tony came to Canada as a Ticketed Marine Engineer and secured work at the MacMillan Bloedel mill.
Tony married Theresa Marie Brennan in September of 1958; they had three children. In 1967 Tony moved his family to Vancouver to continue his engineering education and once completed had acquired his 1st Class Steam Engineer Ticket. In 1969, he accepted a position as supervisor in the Steam Plant at the MacMillan Bloedel mill and moved his family back to Powell River, where Tony lived out the rest of his life.
Tony was a friend to all, a very kind-hearted and caring soul who had many hobbies and interests over his lifetime, including gardening, wine making and tinkering in his workshop. Tony loved to travel and amongst all his travels he visited his beloved homeland many times.
Tony was predeceased by his son Anthony (February 2000); and is survived by his second wife (Gail); his two daughters Donna (Roger) and Barbara (Gerd); his stepdaughter Holly (Shane); grandchildren Michael (Lucy), Tyler, Ryan, Garrett (predeceased 2011), Jason, Mary, Jessie, Anthony (Audrey), Jared (Nicole), Tanner (predeceased 2024), Shannon (Luke), Kirsten and Owen (Julie); great-grandchildren Jacob, Emily, Sophie, Isla, Meadow and Beau; his brothers Albert and Ronnie; and all his many nephews and nieces.
A special thank-you to all the wonderful staff at Willingdon Creek Village where Tony spent his last few years; we are eternally grateful for the loving care you gave our dad, and to Dr. Evans for your understanding and care you provided Tony.
Tony was most loved and will be dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Church of the Assumption, 7109 Glacier Street, Powell River. A reception will be held next door to the church following the funeral service.
