Predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Beppy) Oele (Rijke). Born in the Netherlands. Passed away in Powell River at the age of 101.
Sam grew up in the Netherlands with one brother during World War II. He married Beppy in 1949, with two sons born in Holland. They immigrated to Canada in 1957.
Sam worked on the boom in the mill for a few years before being able to do what he was trained to do. He became an accountant and did this till he retired at the age of 65.
Sam and Beppy had six more children for a total of eight. They had 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandkids and one great-great-grandchild.
Sam loved the outdoor life, fishing and hunting every chance he could. Sam lost his two oldest sons in 2020 within a few months of each other. He is survived by his children Diana Oele, Terry Oele, Bonny Mercer, Michael Oele, Robert Oele and Richard Oele.
