Peacefully, at his home in Port Hardy, in his 58th year.
Paul (John Geoffrey Paul) Mikkelsen was predeceased by his mother Florence Mikkelsen (née Grandmont) and is survived by his father Walter, of Powell River, and his two sisters, Karen Eger (Scott), of Edmonton, AB, and Susan, of Kitchener, ON.
Paul was born in Val-d’Or, QC, and attended early schooling in Winnipeg, MB, graduating from Max Cameron Collegiate in 1983. He spent several years in Vancouver studying (UBC, BCIT) and working before settling in 2004 in Port Hardy, where he found a home while working in marine electronics at Stryker Electronics Inc.
During his 19 years with Stryker, his colleagues became his family, and he will be missed by both the Stryker family and his loyal customers.
Paul loved the outdoors, enjoyed sport fishing as well as travel to remote locations to work onsite repairing or upgrading systems for his customers. He was known by some as the man with the waffle iron (and everything that goes with it) in the back of his truck, just in case.
Paul will be remembered as a caring man with a lively sense of humour.
Cremation has taken place at Comox Valley Funeral Home. A celebration of Paul’s life will take place in Port Hardy at a future date.
