Mary passed away in Calgary at the age of 95. She was born at #10 Riverside, below the Mill Dam. Her family moved to Wildwood and then on to Cranberry, where she spent most of her youth.
After graduation from Brooks School, she went on to work in the office of the Mill Stores. She then moved to Toronto, where she met the light of her life John. They married in 1953 at St. Joseph’s Church in the Townsite and enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage together. They moved to Calgary in 1955, where their three sons, Michael, Stephen and David, were born. She was a beloved Nonna to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mary spent many hours of leisure time helping to build and maintain a log cabin overlooking the Rocky Mountains at Waiparous Summer Village. Mary and John enjoyed trips to many parts of the world, especially Italy. Although she moved away from Powell River, it was always her hometown, and she enjoyed many visits back home.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Velletta (2019), father Giovanni Pellegrin, mother Ida Pellegrin (née Gambin) and brother Saverio (Mryt) Pellegrin. She is survived by her brother Ron (June) Pellegrin; sons Michael (Carmen), Stephen (Diane) and David (Rae); grandchildren Natalia, Justin, Max, Laura, Jonathan, Elaine, and Matthew; and great-grandchildren Sawyer, Sloane and Emma.
