In loving memory of Hermann Welp...

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hermann Welp at the age of 89. He was born in Hillegersberg (NL), but grew up in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, with five siblings during World War II.

As a child Hermann developed a big interest in painting and playing piano. As a young man he founded his own company (1952) making uniforms for marching bands. In 1984 he and his wife Truce and their children immigrated to Powell River, Canada. They opened the Deli Truce Dutch Cafe, where to this day people approach his family with fond memories of him and his breakfasts with homemade blackberry jam. He also continued his work as a tailor by running his leather shop.

Over the years he created many paintings and continued playing piano. He played exceptionally well by ear even though he could not read the notes. Hermann also had a passion for hunting, gardening, photography and classical music throughout his life.

For many years, he and Truce travelled to Europe regularly to maintain contact with family and friends. He loved his family.

Hermann and Truce were married for almost 60 years. His four granddaughters were his pride and joy. He passed on his stories and love for his hobbies to his children and grandchildren. On the first anniversary of Truce’s death, Hermann fell asleep peacefully in Powell River.

“Hermann, Pa, Opa…we miss you so much and you will always remain in our thoughts and in our hearts.”

Hermann was predeceased by his wife Truce. He is survived by his children Peter (Martina) and Hanneke, and grandchildren Anne, Sophie, Meghan and Maren.
