In loving memory of Barbara Jean Thorsell (née Nott)
After a one night stay, Barbara passed away peacefully at Oceanside Trillium Hospice at the age of 91 years.
Barb was born in Penticton and raised in Esquimalt, where she met and married Morton Thorsell. They relocated to Powell River, where she raised her three children before pursuing her education and becoming a kindergarten teacher.
In 2015, she moved to Qualicum Beach to be closer to her daughter Christina, who provided and organized support for her during this final phase of her life. In Qualicum, Barb made fast friends with the ladies (Sherrol, Annie, Fern, Peggy and Sharon) in her walking group while she stayed in close contact with longtime friends Ana Prosperi Porta, Muriel Carriere and Alice Carson in Powell River.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Lisa and Wayne, Stacey Burch and Barb Feist, who provided unwavering companionship and support during the last few years.
Barb is survived by her loving children Christina (Kath), Fred and Gary (Abby), as well as her cherished grandchildren: Troy, Patrick (Jodi), Jacqueline, Sarah (Serkan), Dean (Meryl), Charlie and Alexis. Her great-grandchildren Saige, Matteo, Theodore, Valentina, Ella, Finnley, Weston and Peyton were a source of immense joy and pride for her.
Barbara’s life was a testament to her deep love for family and her dedication to education. Her journey from raising a family to becoming a passionate kindergarten teacher enriched the lives of many.
Her kindness, warmth and love of her family, her cat Precious, and the colour purple, will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
