Sadly, Andy peacefully passed away on his own terms, at home with his girls by his side after a lengthy struggle with lung disease. He was predeceased by his wife Mary; parents Andy Sr and Florence; his sister Jenny; and sons-in-law Dave Wightman and Dave Pearson. He leaves behind his daughters Valerie (Brent), Linda and Sandra (Rob); grandchildren Torey (Sydney), Kevin, Steven (Katelin) and Amy (Jeremy); great-grandchildren Aoife, Isla, Pearson, Lucas and Ivy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Born in Duncan, BC, Andy grew up on the family farm in Cobble Hill. He learned to drive sitting on an apple box at an early age and would do farm deliveries for his dad and was known for driving his teachers to the post office or home after school. He was always tinkering with a car or a truck, which led him to bigger things – like logging trucks, which eventually led him to a lifelong career in the trucking and logging industry.
He met Mary, his love, and they married in 1955. They began their married life in Mill Bay; soon after he purchased his first truck and began building the business and their family.
Opportunity took them to Sechelt in the early 1960s, further expanding the business and the family, and then to Powell River in 1969.
Andy had a zest for life and loved hunting, fishing, boating and travelling. He was a private and humble man and will be remembered for his optimistic outlook, kindheartedness, sense of humour and devotion to his family, friends and businesses. He was a true gentleman.
We are grateful for the care and support provided by Dr. Morwood and his staff, and to Dr. May over the years, as well as the home-care nurses who came each week. A special thank-you to Carol Ferriera for your guidance and support in helping us with Dad this past year and a half.
A celebration of life will be held on January 27, 2024, from 1 to 3:30 pm at Powell River Town Centre Hotel (4660 Joyce Avenue, Powell River).
