CONSERVATION EFFORTS: To protect water levels in City of Powell River’s water source at Haslam Lake, stage two water restrictions have been imposed by the city.

As of July 10, City of Powell River imposed stage two water restrictions, effective immediately.

According to a media release from the city, ongoing conservation efforts are crucial and responsible water use helps maintain healthy levels of the city’s water source, Haslam Lake. Water use restrictions are in place to ensure a sustainable water supply, especially considering factors such as maintaining fisheries flows and fire protection needs, the release stated.

With stage two restrictions, in terms of lawn watering, odd-numbered addresses can water between midnight and 9 am on odd days; even-numbered addresses can water between midnight and 9 am on even days.

There are no restrictions on the watering of flowers, vegetable gardens, shrubs and trees.

Power washing of hard surfaces such as driveways and patios is only allowed for health and safety reasons, or before painting. Power washing for aesthetic purposes is prohibited and applies to private and commercial pressure washing.

For vehicle washing, a hose with a spring-loaded shutoff nozzle must be used.
