A Powell River resident has been convicted of using counterfeit money. Roy Gene Hopkins was convicted on 10 counts of uttering counterfeit money and one count of uttering threats.

A Powell River resident has been convicted of using counterfeit money. Roy Gene Hopkins was convicted on 10 counts of uttering counterfeit money and one count of uttering threats.

“Between August 14 and 16, Hopkins made numerous purchases using counterfeit US $50 bills, victimizing numerous Powell River businesses,” said RCMP Constable Tim Kenning.

Hopkins bought a car in Vancouver in August with the fake bills and used the cash in various businesses in the Lower Mainland and Powell River.

Hopkins was sentenced to a total of 13 months in jail as a result of the convictions.
