by Ben Ingram, Coast Reporter A Lower Sunshine Coast woman charged with possessing child pornography is linked to an ongoing investigation on Texada Island.
Kelly Adams, 38, a Gibsons resident, appeared in Sechelt Provincial Court on August 22. She is disputing the charges and will be fighting to clear her name in court.
“All I’m telling people is I had a friend stay with me for a few weeks from overseas. He compromised my computer. My lawyer will be clearing my name,” she told Coast Reporter this week. “It was somebody else.”
Adams was released from court on strict conditions limiting her access to the Internet, as well as unsupervised contact with minors. Her arraignment was scheduled for October 17.
Powell River RCMP had executed a search warrant on Texada Island. “As a result of that search warrant we have numerous items being examined by our tech crime unit,” said Sergeant Rod Wiebe. “No charges yet, but they could be forthcoming once that examination is completed.”
Wiebe said when Powell River police realized there was a link to the Sunshine Coast, they shared the information with the RCMP on the lower coast. “They then took the lead in the file,” Wiebe said.
The investigation includes the Vancouver Police Department and the BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit.
