NVESTIGATION UNDERWAY: Texada Island RCMP are investigating what they suspect to be arson when two bathrooms in the Shelter Point Regional Park overflow campground were set on fire.

On July 5 at approximately 5 am, Texada Island RCMP responded to a report of a fire in the bathroom near the sani-dump station at the Shelter Point Regional Park overflow campground.

According to a media release, the fire was put out with a fire extinguisher. No one was staying in the overflow campground area and no one was hurt, the release stated. After initial investigation, police discovered that another bathroom in the overflow campground was damaged and police believe that the fire was set intentionally. An arson investigation is continuing.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident, may have any video footage from the area at the time the incident took place, or may have any information, to phone Texada Island RCMP at 604-486-7717 or the Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255.
