It's unlikely the rain predicted for Monday will effect the campfire ban on the Sunshine Coast.

Moderate temperatures are expected to continue now through Monday, July 29, when 19 millimetres of rain are forecast. Weatherhood is also forecasting rain for Tuesday, but only one millimetre, which is not enough to warrant getting the raincoats out for. (You can save those for the fall.)

Environment Canada is also predicting rain for Monday, but no rain Tuesday and a definite spike in temperatures leading up to the long weekend, which is expected to reach 24 C by Thursday, Aug. 1.

It’s unlikely Monday’s rain will be enough to affect the campfire/burning ban, which includes fires, for warmth or cooking, and all beach fires, burning barrels, fireworks, firecrackers and sky lanterns.

The campfire prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or portable campfire devices, which use briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, provided they are Canadian Standards Association or Underwriters Laboratories of Canada approved, and the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres. A resource from the provincial government explaining the different categories of open burning is available online.
