Summer reading club launches at Powell River Public Library

Library engages youth to explore new books and celebrates 6th year at Alberni Street location

Family’s gathered on the patio at Powell River Public Library (PRPL) to celebrate two special events on July 4.

Summer Reading Club 2023: Journey Through Time/Un Voyage Dans Le Temps for school-aged children ages 5 to 14 years began, and the library also welcomed visitors to the patio for popsicles, to celebrate the 6th anniversary at the Alberni Street location. The summer club is back in-person after going virtual in 2020.

“The library will have multiple activities throughout the day, [during the summer reading club],” said chief librarian Rebecca Burbank.

For seven weeks PRPL will engage youth with workshops, reading challenges and live theatre events, running from July 4 to August 18.

Registration is closed but there are many other ways to participate, including reading challenges and reading trackers (that are not necessarily in person but online).

Youth aged 12 to 18 can also take part in a summer reading challenge.

“Read a book and fill out an online entry form at prpl.ca and be entered into a draw for a gift card from a local business,” according to PRPL.

The contest runs until Friday, August 31. For more information go to prpl.ca/kids/summer-reading-club.
