At the November 15 committee of the whole meeting, City of Powell River councillors received correspondence from Special Olympics BC-Powell River regarding the annual Christmas tree mulch fundraiser on January 8, 2023. The Special Olympics committee was seeking support from the city.
The committee has communicated with the city’s CUPE 798 workers for assistance that day in collecting trees and will also communicate with city director of infrastructure Tor Birtig regarding use of city vehicles. The city has supported this event in the past.
Jackson said there is already a provision in the city’s delegation bylaw that permits staff to have the discussion over allocation of city resources for the event.
