Powell River Community Response Fund has awarded an additional $23,000 to be distributed to three different projects affected by COVID-19, bringing the total amount donated to local community organizations to more than $116,000. This is the third round of funding.
“The collaborative work and effort underway with Powell River and District United Way, Powell River Community Foundation and First Credit Union really demonstrates response, but as well, resiliency for our community,” stated regional social planner Kai Okazaki in a media release.
The Community Response Fund were allocated as follows: Texada Food Bank ($1,000) – support the purchase of a stand-up freezer in the food bank building; Lift Community Food Box ($10,000) – support operational costs to recover and rescue food from local stores participating in the retail food recovery program, as well as replenish pantry items at the Community Resource Centre; Lift Community Family Place ($12,000) – support operational costs to deliver the sprouts food project and good food boxes for families.
According to the media release, the allocated funds provide frontline services to vulnerable populations affected by COVID-19. Services could include: food security, financial wellness, health and hygiene, home care or personal support services, information and navigation, legal supports, mental health and wellness, shelter, safety, social inclusion and learning, and transportation.
Next funding intake date is August 14. Applications for funding will be available at prcommunityfoundation.com/community-response-fund. Partners in the fund are calling on organizations and individuals to give now at the same web address.
According to the release, Powell River Community Response Fund is a special fund to rapidly deploy essential relief to organizations providing frontline services to those disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The partnership is led by Powell River and District United Way, Powell River Community Foundation, and First Credit Union, with support from the regional social planner, representing City of Powell River, qathet Regional District and Tla’amin Nation.
