The committee recommended that the board direct staff to go forward with prioritizing the implementation of all necessary measures needed to meet regulatory fire-service levels for Lasqueti Island. It also recommended the establishment of an advisory committee comprised of the fire chief and local residents to help with the creation of an emergency dispatch and house-numbering service.

Director gets paid

Powell River Regional District committee of the whole recommended on Thursday, October 8 that the board increase compensation to the Emergency Support Services Director by $3,999 and approve an amendment to the 2016 budget to provide $20,800 for the position that had previously been volunteer.

Tax exemption

The committee will recommend that the board grant a permissive tax exemption to the Myrtle Point Golf Club for its recreation/non-profit land. The board will require that the club pay $861 for fire-protection services provided by Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department.

Fees waived

Committee of the whole will also recommend that the board waive tipping fees for garbage delivered to the Augusta transfer for the Powell River Midget Kings rep hockey team Garbageathon that will be held later this month.
