Rain in forecast for qathet region, but Friday brings sunshine

WET WEATHER: Weatherhood predicts that rain will fall for most of the day, today, Wednesday, August, 21. The temperature is 17 degrees Celsius in the daytime, dropping to 14 degrees overnight. The photo above was taken at Third Beach, or as locals call it, First Beach.

Weatherhood has forecast a stormy few days in the qathet region, with winds blowing up to 16 kilometres an hour this afternoon and up to 12 millimetres of rain expected. The temperature high for Wednesday, August 21, is 17 degrees.

Environment Canada indicates there is a risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon. Thursday, August 22, there will be a mix of sun and cloud with periods of rain throughout the day. Friday, August 23, the temperature will rise to 18 degrees with sun and cloud.

Saturday and Sunday there is a 40 per cent chance of rain with a mix of sun and cloud in the daytime, with temperatures around 15 to 17 degrees.

Did you know that Canada's tallest weather radar tower is located in Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast? According to Environment and Climate Change Canada the 34.4 metre tower stands atop Halfmoon Peak, including the radome perched on top.

This was the last and most complex radar installation of the 33 radars of Canada's weather radar replacement project. The radar tower was designed to be the tallest in the network and is meant to allow for more accurate weather forecasting in the region. The radar became operational on August 21, 2023.
