Strike continues
Representatives of Vancouver Island University (VIU) and Vancouver Island University Faculty Association (VIUFA) were unable to reach an agreement during new talks that broke off on Saturday, March 19.
Meanwhile, VIU has reached a tentative settlement with the BC Government Employees Union, which represents instructors working in program areas such as trades, health sciences, adult basic education and international education. Classes are still suspended, however, due to the VIUFA strike.
Earth Hour
BC Hydro and City of Powell River Mayor Stewart Alsgard encourage Powell River residents to turn off their lights during Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, Saturday, March 26. The goal of the event is to encourage individuals to turn off unnecessary lights and electronics in an effort to conserve power.
