At the qathet Regional District committee of the whole meeting on December 8, a recommendation was made that the board submit a letter of feedback to Recycle BC and BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy regarding the Packaging and Paper Product Extended Producer Responsibility Plan consultation draft.
A staff report indicates that the board should send a feedback letter expressing concerns that the new proposed eligibility criteria for small and island communities as written has too much ambiguity. The report stated there are eight Recycle BC depots in the region, seven of which have been established by the regional district.
According to the report, under the proposed new plan, given the criteria outlined, five of the region’s eight Recycle BC depots no longer meet the criteria requirements.
