Finance committee recommends that the board approve annual report

REQUIRED EXERCISE: qathet Regional District’s statement of financial information has been released, outlining core financial details of the regional district’s operation.

qathet Regional District’s finance committee is recommending the regional board approve the 2023 statement of financial information (SOFI), which in part lists remuneration and expenses of elected officials and staff.

At the June 5 finance committee meeting, directors also reviewed the 2023 report of directors’ remuneration, expenses and contracts. Directors unanimously passed the SOFI report and report of directors’ remuneration without discussion.

According to the reports, the five directors representing the electoral areas and the two directors representing City of Powell River were paid total remuneration of $172,648.57 in 2023, with expenses of $34,662.38, and benefits of $567, for a total of $207,877.95. Only one alternate director was paid remuneration, which amounted to $710, with 121.54 in expenses.

All alternate directors received benefits, which amounted to $567. The total for all alternates’ remuneration, expenses and benefits amounted to $1,398.54.

Total remuneration for directors and alternate directors in 2023 was $173,358.57, with expenses of $34,783.92 and benefits of $1,134, for a total expenditure for directors being $209,276.49.

There were 14 regional district employees who earned more than $75,000 in 2023. Total remuneration for those 14 employees was $1,551,982.68, with expenses of $50,217.86. The consolidated total of other employees with remuneration of $75,000 or less was $1,615,738.62, with expenses of $106,777.89.

Total remuneration for qathet Regional District employees in 2023 was $3,167,721.30, with expenses of $156,995.75.

According to a staff report, in order to comply with the Financial Information Act, local governments must submit specific financial information to the ministry of municipal affairs and housing in a document entitled statement of financial information. The report stated that SOFI consists of core financial statements and schedules for employee remuneration and payments to suppliers for goods and services provided.
