At the qathet School District (qSD) board meeting on December 20, qSD chairperson Jaclyn Miller highlighted some charitable initiatives happening in the qathet school community for the month of December.
Across the school district the Everybody Deserves a Smile (EDAS) program has been in full swing, providing care packages for those in need.
"Everybody Deserves A Smile bags are put together and delivered to community organizations this week," said Miller. "Each bag has socks, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and decorated sugar cookies. 520 bags were handed out this year and the number has increased every year since it began in 2019."
Miller mentioned an initiative launched by Brooks Secondary School’s mental health advocacy group.
"Running for the month of December, the group created 32 handmade Kindness Kritters, which will be given to teachers for their classes along with a poster containing a daily random act of kindness to read out to the class,” said Miller.
The intention of the program is to promote kindness in school and suggest acts of kindness such as complimenting strangers, holding a door open for someone, picking up garbage or smiling at someone.
