OFFICIAL OPENING: At the qathet School District board meeting on Wednesday, October 16 board chair Jaclyn Miller announced a ribbon-cutting event at a new modular child care facility beside Edgehill Elementary School (photo above), on November 2.

Two new child care facilities have been in the works at the qathet School District (qSD) and are now completed.

"I am thrilled to extend an invitation to our community for the official opening of a project that is a milestone for our region," said qSD board chair Jaclyn Miller, at the school board meeting on Wednesday, October 16. "Thanks to the Government of BC’s ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, we are opening 56 new licensed child care spaces at two locations, near Kelly Creek and Edgehill schools."

Miller said the centres will be operated by YMCA BC, and will provide early childhood care to families in the qathet region.

"To celebrate, we will be hosting a ribbon-cutting event at the Edgehill [YMCA Child Care] Centre on November 2 from 10:00 to 12:00 pm, with light refreshments and a chance to tour the new facility," said Miller. "We expect to have a few special guests and look forward to marking this important occasion with the community."

qSD executive assistant Erica Reimer confirmed with the Peak that the YMCA has the goal to be open the first week of November at Edgehill (7312 Abbotsford Street), however it is dependent on a final licensing inspection. The official opening at Kelly Creek (near Kelly Creek Community School) is pending an inspection as well, and the opening is To be announced, indicated Reimer.
