qathet Regional District (qRD) is upgrading the regional community notification system.
According to a qRD media release, the community notification system can rapidly circulate critical safety information to help the community stay up-to-date in the event of an emergency.
“The qRD has been operating community notification systems for 10 years and over this time the technology has evolved considerably,” stated regional district chair Patrick Brabazon. “In order for residents to have access to the latest essential information, it is vital the qRD continues to adapt our emergency systems and services.”
The upgraded community notification system allows the regional emergency operations centre to send voice messages to phones as well as text messages and emails.
The service is free of charge; however, residents must register for the system in order to receive emergency notifications. Even if people have previously enrolled, a new registration is required.
To register for the community notification system, go to qathet.ca/emergency-preparedness, and click the “enrol here” button. Those going online will be directed to fill out a registration form. Readers can contact [email protected] for more information.
To help the community stay aware and be prepared, qRD encourages all residents to register for regional community notifications. To learn more about emergency preparedness, go to qathet.ca.
