qathet Regional District's board has approved a grant of $5,000 to Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association for the fall 2023 therapeutic riding session. The money will come from the general grants-in-aid service.
Project proceeding
The board approved a grant of $10,000 to Lasqueti Community Association for its layered histories – cultural heritage project from the social planning service. According to the application, this proposal will involve conducting interviews, field visits and archival research on the deep time and more recent cultural and ecological history of Lasqueti Island.
The information will be collated into an accessible database for the community. The application states that the goal of the project is to seek ways to better honour and protect Indigenous heritage.
Program funded
Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy will receive a $2,445 grant for its landowner stewardship program. The application states that the island’s population has expanded 24.4 per cent in the last five years, and the nature conservancy is observing the growing need for community outreach and education regarding private land stewardship.
