No objection

qathet Regional District board of directors has no objection to an application for an aquaculture lease at McRae Cove, near Scotch Fir Point, in Electoral Area C.

At the February 22 regional board meeting, directors did not object to a 30-year crown licence of occupation for aquaculture purposes on an un-surveyed crown foreshore or land covered by water being part of the bed of McRae Cove, containing .18 acres.

Providing report

The board is directing staff to provide a report on a potential multi-year funding agreement with Sunshine Coast Tourism to coincide with the remainder of the approved municipal and regional district tax (MRDT) period of 2023 to 2026.

Contribution supported

A total contribution of $1,667 will be made to the Texada Library, which is located in the old school building in Gillies Bay. The library maintains a collection, donated and purchased, of fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, reference materials, DVDs and other audio-visual materials. The contribution to the library will be in the 2023 budget of the Powell River regional library service.

Supporting school

The board is including a contribution of $55,430 in the 2023 budget for Kelly Creek Community School. According to correspondence from the school, the daycare service has reopened. Also, the arts and gym program is almost at capacity.

Loaner program

There will be referral to staff of a request for installation of a personal floatation device (PFD) loaner station through the kids don’t float program at Shelter Point Regional Park on Texada Island. A report will be presented at a future committee of the whole meeting. The program is sponsored by the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue organization, which supplies signage, hooks and life jackets for children on a loaner basis. The program features free day-use of PFDs for kids. The program is run on an honour system, where PFDs are taken from the display unit, used for boating enjoyment, and then returned when the day on the water is done.
