During Emergency Preparedness Week (May 1 to 7) there will be a test of the qathet regional community notification system.
According to a memo from qathet Regional District, this system is used by the three local governments: qathet Regional District, Tla’amin Nation and City of Powell River, to inform the community of important information during an emergency.
The test is scheduled for May 3 at 1:15 pm. Messages will be sent by voice, email and text messages.
If residents have not registered, they can do so at the link below. The emergency planning team also requests that people help promote registration with friends and neighbours.
Registration link: qathet.ca/services/emergency-services/emergency-preparedness.
The memo states that Emergency Preparedness Week is a great time to check and update grab-and-go bags and check personal preparedness.
The community notification system is a locally run system and should not be confused with the provincial alert ready system: emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca/alert-ready-wireless-public-alerting.
Readers can email [email protected] or [email protected] if they have questions or need help with the notification system or personal/neighbourhood preparedness.
