A viewpoint [Powell River building codes need to be changed] published on the Peak website on July 14 contained an inaccuracy, according to the City of Powell River planning services department.
Manager of planning services Jason Gow said the statement in the article that indicates parking regulations are limiting the number of people into the Townsite Brewing facility is incorrect. The viewpoint states that the occupancy for the brewery is set at 45 people because of the number of parking spaces on Townsite Brewing property.
Gow said the BC Building Code, which is provincial legislation, dictates building occupancy. It is determined on square footage of space and washroom capacity, according to Gow.
“The city’s off-street parking requirements did not factor into the determination of occupancy for Townsite Brewing, as was written,” said Gow.
