FUNDING RECEIVED: Sports and community not-for-profit organizations will receive funding from the provincial government to help people be more active, creative and culturally connected.

Community grants for not-for-profit organizations in the qathet region will help deliver services so people can be more active and connected.

“People’s lives are enhanced by the sports, arts and cultural programming that not-for-profit organizations offer throughout British Columbia,” stated Anne Kang, minister of municipal affairs, in a media release from the province. “Healthy, vibrant communities are key to a healthy, vibrant province and these grants are one way our government is helping people in communities thrive.”

The BC government is supporting 162 not-for-profit organizations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast that are focused on arts and culture, with more than $4.4 million in community gaming grants. The funding will help people participate in a range of activities, such as theatre and music, as well as access cultural centres and museums.

In qathet, five arts and culture community organizations were the recipients of community gaming grants. These include: Malaspina Art Society, $7,500; Pacific Region International Summer Music Association [PRISMA], $35,000; Powell River Academy of Music, $30,000; qathet Art Council, $37,000; and qathet Museum and Archives Society, $23,000.

The province is also helping 153 not-for-profit organizations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast dedicated to sports, with more than $4.2 million in community gaming grants.
