VIDEO: Power restored in Wildwood area of Powell River

Tree branch blown onto power lines [with video] caused fire

High wind conditions contributed to a power outage in Wildwood on November 4.

According to the BC Hydro outage map, the wind blew a branch off a tree onto powerlines on Columbia Street. According to an eyewitness, a transformer four houses up from King Avenue blew, then one at King and Columbia blew.

The BC Hydro outage map states the power went at 8:01 pm. The outage affected 289 customers in an area west of Atlin Avenue, east of Sutherland Avenue and north of Lund Street. Crews were dispatched to the scene, and were at the location at 8:50 pm. Emergency vehicles were at the scene at the bottom of Columbia on King, and further up Columbia blocking traffic.

Power was restored in the area just after 10 pm.
