Four candidates are campaigning to represent the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding as MLA. General election day is October 19.
To conclude a three-part question and answer series, Christopher Hergesheimer (Green Party of BC), Randene Neill (BC NDP), Greg Reid (Independent) and Chris Moore (Conservative Party of BC) were asked the following question:
Why should voters in the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding choose you to represent them as their MLA in Victoria?
Here is the response from Christopher Hergesheimer (Green Party):
Constituents in the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding have a choice between entrenched political parties that embrace fighting, blaming and predictable slogans or the BC Greens, who offer a positive alternative and serve a vital role in a truly democratic legislature.
We need voices that hold corporate and political power accountable and by voting Green in this election, you are adding to that chorus and that momentum.
That said - no one should tell you who to vote for or how to vote. Despite being sold - literally every election cycle - the idea that one must vote strategically, your voice in the democratic process is sacred and valuable. I encourage you to support the candidate of your choice based on your own instincts, research and engagement.
I have firsthand, frontline experience working in this riding and am a capable, passionate and authentic candidate. I have a strong work ethic and have placed creativity and joy at the core of our campaign.
The Green Party has a fully costed, forward-thinking platform that offers an exciting economic future, and supports an inclusive and caring society. I am extremely proud and grateful for my team, who have encouraged this community to imagine a more positive future; one not based on fear, failure or the status quo, but rather optimism that we can and will do better.
I can say from my own experience that voting Green - especially for the first time - is exhilarating and there is nothing like it.
