SKATE SUCCESS: Powell River Skating Club recently presented Mystery On Ice at Powell River Recreation Complex. Skate club coach Shayla Sarton [middle] stands with junior and StarSkate skaters after the performance.

For the past two months, Powell River Skating Club skaters practiced their glides and fancy footwork in order to get ready for Mystery on Ice, a free ice-dance performance that took place on March 1 at Powell River Recreation Complex.

"Our show featured all of our star skaters and our up-and-coming junior star skaters," said spokesperson and former skating club president Barb Klippenstein. "All of the skaters prepared for this show over the past two months while [at the same time] preparing for test days and competition."

The skate club was able to put on a free performance due to a grant the club received from qathet Regional District.

"Next year we hope to involve more of our little CanSkate [learn-to-skate program] kids, but it takes time and more volunteers," said Klippenstein.

Skaters participating in the ice show were Emma Piniewski; Samantha Ratzlaff; Mallory Brooks; Arwyn Fretts; Brooklyn Bourcier; Arianna Solowan; Ana Salome; Irie Ladner; Tinsley Jones; and Nola Behan. Junior skaters included Scarlett Townley; Charlotte Bigold; Hannah Bigold; Hailey Shelton; Ella Storry; Estella Phillips; Hazel Manchon; and Breya Mowat.
