A group of residents from the Westview area in Powell River have formed Westview Ratepayers Society to collaborate on opportunities and concerns facing all residents, property owners and business owners/operators in the area.

According to a media release, the society will enhance the quality of life in Westview by:

• Coordinating a neighbours helping neighbours group dedicated to building support networks, increasing community resiliency/social cohesion, considering neighbourhood safety and effective emergency response throughout Westview.

• Promoting bus shelters, road maintenance and other infrastructure needs.

• Providing information on city programs that could result in an increased tax rate.

• Assisting members who are facing delays in getting permits.

• Promoting the Westview area with Powell River’s mayor and council.

The media release states Westview Ratepayers Society wants to hear from residents, property owners and business owners/operators in the Westview area. Residents can go to westviewratespayerssociety.com to learn more, become a member and get involved with one of the various community initiatives.

“I am delighted to hear that the Westview Ratepayers Society has been implemented,” stated resident Kathy Tait. “Personally, I am already grateful to live in such a beautiful, safe community and with the addition of this program to Westview, one of our bigger areas, it just gets better.”

Tait stated this initiative will enhance quality of life in the community and provide useful information for City of Powell River in its decision-making process.

“I was delighted to hear that Westview will finally have a ratepayers association,” stated resident Maggie Hathaway. “As a city councillor, input from ratepayers associations is always helpful and informative, and often plays a role in our decision-making process. I will make every effort to attend the meetings once the association is up and running.”

Resident John Wyse said Westview is a great, and big, neighbourhood.

“I believe this society will help to enhance the lives of all of us in Powell River, and specifically, Westview,” stated Wyse, “by offering a dedicated platform for more engagement between each of us and with city hall.”
