Early in the afternoon on November 12, police were alerted to a possible improvised explosive device (IED) on the sidewalk on Marine Avenue between Duncan and Courtenay street.
“In consultation with our explosive disposal unit (EDU), officers evacuated the block and awaited their attendance,” stated Powell River RCMP detachment commander staff sergeant Rod Wiebe in a media release. “Just after 2 pm, EDU was on scene and transported the IED to a safe area, where it was detonated. The investigation is continuing but police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no further threat to public safety.
