When Powell River Garden Club (PRGC) president Lesley Moseley found out Four Tides Hospice Society (FTHS) was planning to create a serenity garden at its new facility, the hospice house, she brought forth the idea to the garden club committee to get the ball rolling for a fundraiser.
The planning finally came together and a fundraiser was held on Saturday, May 4, at the Patricia Theatre. Recently, FTHS president Malerie Meeker was presented with a cheque from the PRGC fundraiser for $4,723.20.
Meeker stated in an email to the Peak that “grateful” is too small of a word for how she feels about the donation from the garden club. She added that the fundraiser was more than successful.
Filmmaker Claudia Medina premiered a public screening of the FTHS video she created for the society. Ken and Kathie Pritchard, who are both avid bird watchers and photographers, screened a video they made of native birds and birdsong, and herbal practitioner Todd Caldecott gave a talk on medicinal plants.
"Participants were entertained before and during the event by the Brooks Junior Jazz Band and Ron Campbell," stated Meeker. "Thank you so much to all the members of the garden club for choosing FTHS as recipient of their fundraising efforts."
