At the City of Powell River Council meeting on November 22, councillor Rob Southcott served notice of motion for a recommendation on community conversations. Notice of motion is where a council member indicates that a motion will be coming up at a future council meeting.

The notice of motion calls for members of council to hold quarterly scheduled community conversations outside of the regular council meeting schedule, where decisions are not made, for the purpose of hearing community members, without the constraints of council meeting procedures, and minimizing excess use of staff time.

The notice states: The community is regularly seeking opportunities to present concerns and ask questions of council regarding various topics that may or may not appear on an agenda, that extended council meetings use up valuable and finite staff time, and community engagement should largely remain separate from conducting regular city and council business to optimize energy and time of members of council.
