I have 40 years of experience in public education. I was the executive director of the Justice Education Society (justiceeducation.ca) for 28 years and developed many educational programs working with BC schools, First Nations communities, the deaf community, and many special needs groups.
I have held senior positions with many community organizations and boards, including the position of vice-chair of the Legal Services Society of BC (legal aid), with a budget of over $100 million annually.
I understand budgets and have fundraised over $50 million for educational programs in BC and internationally. I understand results-based management, what good governance means and how to get things done.
I will be a strong representative for our community and a strong advocate for innovative programs for our youth. I am a recent retiree who has moved here to help out with the grandkids and I have the time and energy this commitment will require.
Our schools are foundational in ensuring respect for our democracy and in helping our youth to be critical thinkers and active citizens. For this to happen, we need to support our teachers to maximize their skills and innovation and also cope with current COVID-19 challenges.
We need to ensure our school district is transparent, well managed, effectively uses the taxpayers’ funds, and includes the community in planning and decision-making. I will commit to ensuring this always happens.
