Powell River and District United Way has joined with United Way British Columbia to better streamline administration and leverage the larger organization’s centralized services.

“We are excited to welcome Powell River and District United Way to the United Way British Columbia family, “ stated United Way BC chief executive officer Michael McKnight. “We believe we are stronger together and can strengthen our community impact across all our regions, including Powell River and qathet Regional District.”

Since 1978, Powell River and District United Way has been operating locally as a trusted charity and community partner, according to the release. Alongside partners and supporters, it raises funds, mobilizes volunteers and advocates for change to improve lives and build community.

Joining with United Way BC means the regional office will be supported in making vital connections to respond to local challenges and make a meaningful and deliberate local impact, the release stated.

“We are committed to maintaining local programs and staff in our communities,” stated Naomi Field, regional coordinator, Powell River and District United Way. “Donors want to see real outcomes at the local level. That’s why dollars raised locally will stay local."

United Way British Columbia, working with communities in BC’s Interior, Lower Mainland, Central and Northern Vancouver (United Way BC), was formed when six United Ways across the province amalgamated in 2021. Since then, it has continued to support local communities with programs and community investment grants while expanding initiatives with a provincial presence, such as Period Promise, according to the release.

“Whether we are in an urban centre or rural communities, we continue to seek ways to serve the people in those communities,” added McKnight.
