Powell River RCMP responded to 148 total calls for service from May 8 to 14, including six thefts, three break and enters, four impaired driving incidents, two assaults, five cases of mischief, and 16 related to mental health.

May 14; Mowat Avenue
RCMP conducted a traffic stop at Mowat Bay Boat launch with a vehicle that had an inactive front licence plate and a dealer demonstration plate affixed to the back. Upon speaking with the driver, police observed signs of alcohol impairment. Police obtained a breath sample on an approved screening device which registered a fail. The driver also had a cancelled driver’s licence.

The driver was issued an immediate driving prohibition, was issued violation tickets for misuse of a dealer plate and having no driver’s licence, and the vehicle was impounded under the Motor Vehicle Act.

May 14; Joyce Avenue
At approximately 11 am, Powell River RCMP received a report from both Marks and Staples that a male had stolen items from the store and then fled on foot. Police conducted patrols and located the suspect nearby. The man was arrested for theft under $5,000 and released to appear in provincial court. All stolen items were returned to the stores.
