October 4; local business

At approximately 10:38 am., Powell River RCMP received a report that a male resident had threatened to beat up a local business owner and threatened to drive his truck through the front of the business. The male was identified by the business owner who reported that he was known to them. The 40-year-old male was arrested for uttering threats and released to appear in provincial court.

October 5; Jasper Street

At approximately 11:32 am., Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a male that had driven his truck over the front lawn of a residence on Jasper Street., spinning his tires and causing damage to the lawn. The burnout was very close to the sidewalk where pedestrians could be expected to be. The driver was identified by the resident and the 19-year-old male was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and mischief, and released to appear in provincial court.

October 5; local residence

At approximately 4 pm., Powell River RCMP received a report of a Telus fraud. The resident reported that she had received a call from someone who claimed to be a Telus employee who knew personal details of her account. The caller asked for further personal information and the resident provided a social insurance number, credit card number and driver’s licence number to the caller. It was later discovered that a fraudulent Rogers account had been opened in the resident’s name.

Powell River RCMP would like to remind all residents not to provide any personal information to unsolicited callers. If you receive a call from someone asking for personal information, hang up immediately. If you suspect you may have been the victim of fraud or have received a suspicious phone call, call the Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255.
