RCMP officers in Powell River are investigating after being called to an early morning stabbing.
According to a media release, just before 1:30 am on May 21, frontline officers from Powell River RCMP were called to assist BC Health Services at a residence on Padgett Road.
The release stated that upon arrival, police located a 56-year-old man suffering from several stab wounds, which are believed to be non-life threatening. The stabbing victim was taken to a local area hospital where he remains in stable condition, according to the release.
A 29-year-old man, who was known to the victim, was arrested at the scene and is in police custody, the release stated.
“We are in the early evidence gathering stage of this investigation, however initial indications are this was an isolated incident between people known to each other, and the general public is not at risk,” stated sergeant Sandi Swanson of the Powell River RCMP.
The Powell River RCMP general investigation section has taken conduct of the investigation with assistance from frontline officers and the forensic identification section. The release stated that investigators are expected to remain at the residence throughout the day today and possibly into the weekend.
