As most residents and businesses along Marine Avenue have noticed, there have been minor disruptions due to paving work that began March 13.
Steve Drummond, president of the Capilano Highway Services (contractor for road maintenance in rural areas), said that “paving on Marine Avenue is on schedule.”
Crews have finished phase one and “are just waiting for the paving company [BA Blacktop] in Sechelt, to start paving, and be finished by March 30,” added Drummond. “The road lines will also be repainted.”
Crews have been slowing and diverting traffic in order for the mill work to be done first; paving comes next. The road work is between Duncan and Alberni streets and City of Powell River suggests drivers find alternate routes.
Capilano Highway Services was the first private company hired by BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) in 1988. MOTI states that road paving and patching is about maintaining safe highways and sealing the road to prevent water pooling
