City of Powell River’s new council chambers are nearing completion.
Mayor Dave Formosa, at the May 27 city council meeting, announced that on June 4, the City of Powell River Council meeting would be held in the new council chambers, on the ground level of city hall in the old Powell River Public Library facility. Chief administrative officer Russell Brewer, when asked at the meeting if that was correct, said that was the plan.
“Next week we will be downstairs in a much bigger facility,” said Formosa. “It’s not 100 per cent ready to go but we will be able to start our meetings downstairs and we will have more room, which will help with social distancing.”
Brewer has since advised that City of Powell River council will be meeting in the existing council chambers on June 4.
When asked for an interview with a spokesperson, the city’s communications department indicated that a media release regarding the opening of the new council chambers will be issued at the appropriate time.
