To commemorate the coronation of King Charles III, 20 North Island-Powell River riding residents will be recognized for their community service with a King Charles III coronation medal.

North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney has been selected to be a partner in this program and will give out the medals. Members of the riding are encouraged to nominate people they feel should be recognized for their community service by September 1, 2024.

The King Charles III Coronation Medal Program recognizes Canadians who exemplify service to others, protection of the environment, youth empowerment and diversity. Across Canada, 30,000 medals will be handed out to deserving individuals.

“Throughout this riding we have some of the most amazing people doing absolutely tremendous work,” stated Blaney, in a media release. “It’s important we have the opportunity to honour the work they do to make this region such a fantastic place to live and to improve the lives of those around them.”

Nominees can serve in a variety of areas, including as advocates for seniors, veterans, the environment and rural economic development. Special consideration will be given to those who are educators, health-care providers or community workers.

Eligible nominees must have made a significant contribution to the country, a province, territory, region or community, or made an outstanding achievement abroad, or made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada. Nominees must have been alive on May 6, 2023, the date of the king’s coronation. Nominations can be made posthumously, as long as the nominee was alive on that date.

Nominations will be accepted until September 1, 2024. During the nomination period, constituents can submit the names of people they feel are deserving of this award to Blaney’s office at either at [email protected] or by filling in a form at rachelblaney.ndp.ca/nominate-someone-who-deserves-a-king-s-coronation-medal.
