Multitude of grants-in-aid approved for qathet organizations

Regional district board distributes funds to more than 20 community groups

SIGNIFICANT DONATIONS: qathet Regional District’s first grants-in-aid package has been approved, distributing funds to various organizations throughout the region.

qathet Regional District (qRD) board has approved its first intake of grants-in-aid, which will benefit more than 20 organizations throughout the region.

At the June 28 regional board meeting, directors gave unanimous approval to the awarding of the grants.

A grant of $12,000 will be provided to Texada Arts, Culture and Tourism for various cultural events on Texada Island occurring in 2024.

Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association will be receiving $5,000 for a 10-week fall therapeutic riding session occurring in 2024.

qathet Film Society has been granted $2,000 for a youth film camp, youth film screening, and qathet International Film Festival.

Pacific Region International Summer Music Association (PRISMA) is the recipient of $25,000, which will be granted for three years from 2024 to 2026 at $25,000 per year through a funding agreement.

qathet Festival of the Performing Arts will be receiving $750, which will be granted for three years from 2024 to 1016 at $750 per year through a funding agreement.

Savary Island Land Trust has been approved for $8,000 for 2024 public education programs and will be granted $8,000 for three years from 2024 to 2026 through a funding agreement.

The board voted to provide a grant of $2,500 to the Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy Society for public education initiatives. This grant-in-aid for $2,500 will be provided for three years from 2024 to 1016 through a funding agreement.

qathet Outdoor Recreation Users Group Trails Society will be receiving $23,000 for ongoing maintenance and construction of multi-use trails throughout qathet region.

The board approved a grant of $3,200 to qathet Concert Band for the 2024 community-based concert band operations.

United Way of British Columbia has been provided a grant of $1,418 for a 2024 transportation assistance program.

A grant of $2,370 was approved for Powell River Compassionate Friends Society for 2024 operational costs.

Vancouver Island North Film Commission is the recipient of $3,000 to provide free motion picture skills training and marketing of qathet region as a filming location.

qathet Art Council has been granted $13,000 for the 2024 qathet public art program.

The board approved a $2,500 grant to Everybody Deserves a Smile for kindness bags to be distributed in the 2024 holiday season.

Powell River Logger Sports Association will receive $10,000 for the 2024 logger sports event.

Townsite Jazz Festival Society was granted $6,000 for 15 public performances at the 2024 Townsite Jazz Festival.

The regional board approved a grant of $2,000 to the Wild Ocean Whale Society for funding towards humanely reducing the feral cat population on Texada Island.

Lund Community Society has received approval for a grant of $4,550 for the Northside Community Recreation Centre pre-school, daycare, recreational and athletic program operations.

Texada Sandcastle Weekend has been approved for a $3,000 grant for the insurance, safety and security of attendees.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232 Texada Island will be receiving $3,289 for parking lot lighting.

A total of $25,000 has been pledged to Texada Island Non-Profit Seniors Housing Society for the purchase of land for the development of rental housing for low-income seniors on Texada Island.

The regional board has approved a grant of $2,500 for the Lasqueti Island Community Arts Council for the annual community arts festival.

Tourism Powell River will receive $15,000 for visitor services shoulder season staff support.
