MIXED WEATHER: Spring is here and flowers are blooming like this rhododendron [above] in Westview. Today, Wednesday, April 9, the forecast is for a mix of sun and cloud with a 25 per cent chance of rain later today.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) March was a month of contrasts, with some teasing warmth, stubborn cold and a mix of nearly every type of precipitation. Just when it seemed spring had arrived, winter made a comeback.

The Weatherhood forecast for the qathet region predicts a continuation of a mixed bag of weather for the second week of April. Today, Wednesday, April 9, the afternoon temperature will rise to 11 degrees Celsius with a 25 per cent chance of rain later today and a mix of sun and cloud. Winds will pick up to 13 kilometres this afternoon.

Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11, daytime temperatures will hover at just above 10 degrees, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high chance of rain in the forecast for both days. Weather-wise, the weekend is looking sunny, with highs between 11 and 12 degrees in the daytime, but will dip below five degrees overnight.

Most folks in qathet are familiar with Powell River Farmers' Market, located on McLeod Road, which takes place every Sunday. However, another market takes place on Saturday and starting in May, on Wednesday, called the Uptown Market, located at 4752 Joyce Avenue. Local vendors are currently selling seedlings, local eggs, a few vegetables and homemade artisan baked goods.
