BC Ferries confirmed the death of a person who experienced a medical emergency on board a ferry servicing Route 3 on Monday evening.
The ferry scheduled to leave from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale was held at the dock on April 15 because of a medical emergency. The 4:20 p.m. sailing was delayed by two hours and 34 minutes and the next sailing, scheduled for 5:25 p.m. from Langdale, was cancelled. Later sailings were also delayed.
On April 16, BC Ferries confirmed the passenger passed away on the ferry. The company will not be releasing further information.
In an email, the West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) confirmed its officers responded to a fatal medical emergency of a male who boarded the ferry in Horseshoe Bay with his family.
"As per WVPD's responsibilities for unexpected deaths in the community, Officers took custody of the deceased until the coroner could attend and begin their investigation," the WVPD said. "We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and all those impacted by this tragic event."
There is no ongoing WVPD investigation, the statement said.
On social media, Sunshine Coast residents expressed condolences for the passenger’s family and involved crews who responded to the emergency.
