LATER SUNSET: Tonight, Thursday, March 6, the sun will set at 6:10 pm, with clear skies and a temperature of six degrees Celsius. The photo above was taken near the Westview sea walk at low tide.

Folks in the qathet region may want to take advantage of clear skies and warm weather this afternoon, Thursday, March 6, by getting outside, before precipitation starts Friday afternoon, according to the Weatherhood app.

Currently, the temperature is a balmy eight degrees and no clouds. The sun will set this evening at 6:10 pm, with clear skies and a night time temperature of four degrees.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), March 1 marked the arrival of meteorological spring, signalling the end of the coldest season in the Northern Hemisphere, with longer, warmer days bringing us closer to the spring.

"But it may not be time to pack away the winter gear just yet," warned the ECCC. "March often brings a few last wintry surprises in the form of unexpected weather and temperature swings before the full warmth of spring settles in."

This spring Canada is expected to see above-average temperatures. However, near-normal temperatures are forecast for the tip of Vancouver Island and near to above-normal temperatures for the qathet region, stated ECCC.
