Kicking the Clutter: How to start your fall organizing

Nine ways to ensure comfort and safety of your home

As the summer winds down, we feel cool autumn air sneaking in. This is the perfect time to start your fall organizing and cleaning.

The weather can change quickly, so finishing those outside projects is crucial. Here are nine things you can plan to ensure the comfort and safety of your home.

Inspect heating devices

Before temperatures drop considerably, inspect your heating system. Replace air filters and check for drafts around windows and doors. It’s easier to prevent a problem than to fix one.

Schedule home maintenance

Fall is a great time to tackle home maintenance tasks. Call gutter cleaning service, roof inspectors and for any necessary repairs to prepare your home for winter weather. The quote below by John F. Kennedy might inspire you to do things on time:  “The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.”

Prepare tools

Gather the rakes, leaf bags and all your garden tools now, so you will be ready to start. This is the time to involve your whole family. After hard work and some wholesome fun, everybody will be tired and hungry. Time to order pizza, or better yet, make your own.

Create a meal plan

Plan your fall menus and consider cooking and freezing meals in advance. Keep your pantry stocked up with spices and canned goods for hearty fall recipes. Soups and stews are easy and fast to put together.

Kids love to help. Let them chop vegetables and set the table. Older kids can make a simple dessert. Easy and fast is an apple crumble: bit.ly/apple-crumble-recipe-oat.

Organize your garden

Prepare your garden for fall by clearing out summer plants, planting bulbs for spring and adding seasonal flowers and décor. After a big cleanup, store your tools in a dry place to prevent them from rusting.

Plan fall activities

Make a list of fall activities you’d like to enjoy, such as apple picking, hiking or attending a local fall festival. Planning will help you make the most of the season. Consider hosting a Halloween party.

Organize seasonal décor

Sort through your fall decorations and decide what to keep, discard or donate. Organize your decorations so they’re easy to find when you’re ready to decorate your home. Visit a local farm for curds and pumpkins.

Plan to decorate

Transform your home into a warm, comfortable and beautiful sanctuary. Thrift stores in the qathet region are full of quality vases, dishes and decorations. Now, you can buy quality items without breaking the bank.

Prepare for emergencies

Ensure you have an emergency kit with essentials such as flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food and water in case of autumn storms or power outages.

By taking these proactive steps to organize your home for the fall season, you can embrace the beauty and coziness of autumn without feeling overwhelmed.
