Islands Trust welcomes Reuben Bronne as new Chief Administrative Officer

With extensive leadership experience, Rueben Bronne takes over as CAO, tasked with enhancing conservation efforts across 13 major islands

Islands Trust Council has a new chief administrative officer (CAO), Rueben Bronee, stepping into the position in late November.

Their predecessor,  Russ Hotsenpiller, held the position for eight years before retiring in June 2024.

“After an extensive search process via an executive search firm, I’m delighted to announce that Rueben Bronee will be joining us as our new Chief Administrative Officer,” said Peter Luckham, chair of the Islands Trust Council in the release. “Rueben is a trusted public sector executive. He has extensive experience leading high-profile transformation initiatives and providing strategic advice. We look forward to working with him as we finalize and implement our strategic plan, and as we carry out the preserve and protect mandate of Islands Trust.”

Island Trust is responsible for preserving and protecting the Islands Trust Area and its unique amenities and environment through conservation-oriented land use planning and regulation, education, and cooperation with First Nations and other agencies – covering 13 major islands and over 450 smaller islands. 

As the CAO, Bronne will be responsible for providing advice to the Islands Trust Council, implementing Trust Council’s policies and decisions maintaining smooth delivery of daily operations and creating a positive organizational culture.

Bronne has worked in the public sector for over 15 years, working as the Assistant Deputy Minister for Communications, Learning and Engagement with the BC Public Service Agency, Assistant Deputy Minister/Executive lead for Policy, Innovation and Engagement with the BC Public Service Agency as well as executive roles in the Ministries of Advanced Education, Education, and Citizens’ Services, and in the Office of the Premier.

“I have a deep appreciation for the unique role of the Islands Trust, and I am very much looking forward to playing a part in advancing this important work,” said Bronee in the release. “It’s exciting to join such a skilled and passionate team of professionals in working with trustees to help lead the Islands Trust forward.”
