The drivers of the two vehicles involved in a crash near Secret Cove on July 3, which closed Highway 101 for several hours, were both injured and transported to Vancouver for medical treatment, according to an email from Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department chief Ryan Daley.

“The Halfmoon Bay Fire Department was paged out at 3:32 p.m. to a head on collision at Mercer Rd. and Highway 101," Daley wrote.

"Both drivers sustained serious injuries and required removal using the Jaws of Life".

Heather Amos, manager of communications and engagement with the Provincial Health Services Authority advised Coast Reporter that five ambulances were dispatched, and paramedics provided emergency medical care on scene. "In total, three patients were transported to hospital including two patients who were transported by air," she wrote.

Daley stated that collaborative work among his department, the RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services personnel was needed to address the scene.

Highway traffic in both directions was stopped for a period of time and by approximately 5:30 p.m. was being detoured around the accident site using Mercer Road.
